Commentary on Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta (Gita) BG: 12.12
Many people adhere to religious rituals mechanically, merely going through the motions without truly connecting with the divine. They may perform ceremonies like house blessings or car pujas out of tradition, yet their minds remain disengaged, focusing on trivial matters instead. While such practices may be passed down through generations and offer some semblance of devotion, they lack depth and genuine spiritual connection.
However, Shree Krishna emphasises that moving beyond mechanical rituals towards spiritual knowledge is essential. Understanding life’s true purpose as God-realisation, rather than material pursuits, leads to inner growth. Spiritual knowledge prompts a desire to purify the mind, but it alone isn’t sufficient to cleanse the heart.
Thus, meditation becomes crucial, enabling practitioners to control the mind and detach from worldly desires gradually. With detachment, one can progress to renouncing the fruits of actions, purifying the mind further, and preparing it for higher spiritual stages.
